STSM on the standardization of staining protocols for tissue macrophages

During this STSM, we attempted to optimize a single protocol for macrophages using antibodies. Optimizations were performed for three different diseases: lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and Crohn’s disease. In addition, in each of these disease entities, diseased and disease-free tissues were stained in one patient (n=3). The STSM has resulted in many interesting observations that have the potential to bring measurable benefits in the future, in the form of new macrophage markers. In addition, we exchanged knowledge about macrophages and tested markers in connection with the symposium on macrophages organized during the STSM.
