STSM: Standardization of staining protocols for tissue macrophages

STSM CALL - Standardization of staining protocols for tissue macrophages - NOW CLOSED

Host Institution: Health Sciences Institute Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP), Badalona, Spain

Supervisor/Coordinator: Maria-Rosa Sarrias Fornes

Instructors: Maria-Rosa Sarrias Fornes, Tony Paul

Timeframe: 22nd May to 25th May 2023

Attendees: On-site: 7 x WG 2 members (2 local, 5 from abroad); Virtually: Any member (only for session 25/05/23, from 14h to 18h): Afternoon conference: Macrophage markers in cancer and inflammation

Purpose: The IGTP will host a STSM to advance in the objectives of Working Group 2 (WG2), which focuses on the validation and standardization of existing and novel myeloid-related biomarkers. Within the STSM we will test and validate the IHC procedure for a panel of 6 candidate macrophage biomarkers, which will be further analyzed by combined Immunofluorescence at a later time in Norway (Espen S Bækkevold lab).
These biomarkers were selected because they have shown promising results in previous studies from members of the consortium. Those candidates are thus mostly derived from wet lab experiments, but (i) have not yet been properly validated due to a lack of adequate tools for their detection, or (ii) have only been validated in one or a limited number of diseases.

Tasks: We aim at setting the optimal IHC conditions for their analysis in FFPE specimens from inflammatory disease and cancer and to establish the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for their evaluation.

Selection Criteria: WG 2 members: Expertise in myeloid cell immunology, coming from a laboratory that has optimized the staining of one of the selected macrophage markers proposed.

Requirements:

  • Availability from May 22 at 10:00 until May 25 at 17:30.
  • Notebook / laptop
  • An official letter from their Institute, stating that:

- They have an active working contract at the moment they will come to IGTP, that is associated to some sort of insurance in case any accident happens on the IGTP premises.

- The centre acknowledges that they are coming to Health Research Institute Germans Trias i Pujol, Badalona, Spain.

Expected Outcome: Based on our work during the STSM we will set the optimal IHC conditions for the analysis of macrophage biomarkers in FFPE specimens from inflammatory disease and cancer and will write standard operating procedures (SOPs) for their evaluation.

Application Deadline: 23rd April 2023
